Cameroon crowned WAFCON 2026 champions after crushing Malawi 3-0
Marie Ngah's brace either side of a Naomi Eto strike sent Cameroon to their first Women's Africa Cup of Nations title at the fourth attempt, ending debutants Malawi's remarkable run in Sunday's final in Rabat.
Ngah brace either side of Eto strike
Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring in the 20th minute, Naomi Eto doubled Cameroon's lead nine minutes later, and Ngah struck again in first-half stoppage time to make it 3-0 before the break. Cameroon controlled the second half comfortably in front of a packed crowd in Rabat to see out the win.
Cameroon's title at the fourth attempt
Cameroon had been beaten in three previous WAFCON finals before finally winning their first continental crown. Their run to the trophy included eliminating defending champions Nigeria 1-0 in the quarter-finals, then edging past hosts Morocco on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes in the semi-final.
Malawi's fairytale run ends
Malawi, the lowest-ranked side in the tournament and competing at a maiden WAFCON finals, produced one of the stories of the competition, beating Nigeria and Ghana on their way to a first-ever final. Their remarkable run came up short against a stronger, more experienced Cameroon side, but the Scorchers leave Morocco with their reputation transformed.
