Van de Ven signs new long-term deal with Spurs

Tottenham confirm the Netherlands defender has committed his long-term future to the club, ending summer speculation linking him with Barcelona and Liverpool.

Van de Ven commits long-term future to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Micky van de Ven has signed a new contract with the club. Sky Sports and BBC Sport both report the new deal runs for five years, with an option to extend it to 2032, and comes with a significant increase in the centre-back's weekly wage that places him among the highest earners at Tottenham.

Van de Ven's previous contract, signed when he joined from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023, still had three years left to run. But Spurs moved to tie him down to fresh terms after interest from Barcelona and Liverpool during the summer window. He becomes the fourth senior Tottenham player to sign new terms this summer, following Ben Davies, Antonin Kinsky and Porro.

"It's a special moment to sign a new deal and a proud moment for me and my family," Van de Ven said. "I've always loved Spurs, from the first day I stepped in here. I love the club, I love the fans and I've developed really well here. It's clear the direction the club wants to go in and I want to be a part of it. I'm excited about what's to come."

Club hail one of Europe's best centre-backs

Sporting Director Johan Lange said he was "delighted that Micky has committed his future to the club," adding: "His growth and development over the past three years — as both a player and a person — has been huge, and he is now without doubt one of the outstanding defenders in European football."

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi echoed that view. "Micky is one of the best centre-backs in Europe and an important player for us," he said. "He has the qualities, mentality and ambition that we want at Tottenham Hotspur, and I am very happy that he has decided to continue his journey with the club."

A key man in Spurs' Europa League triumph

Van de Ven has been central to Tottenham's rise since arriving from Wolfsburg, playing a key role in the club's Europa League triumph in 2025 — including a goal-line clearance in the final against Manchester United — and captaining the side in the final six matches of last season under De Zerbi. He is closing in on his 100th appearance for the club after making 45 in all competitions last term, with 10 goals to his name, including a length-of-the-pitch solo run against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

At international level, the 25-year-old has 24 caps for the Netherlands and featured at both Euro 2024 and this summer's World Cup.
