Manchester City complete British-record £116m deal for Elliot Anderson
The 23-year-old becomes the most expensive British player and centre-midfielder in football history, leaving Nottingham Forest as new head coach Enzo Maresca's first signing.
Manchester City have completed a club-record £116m (€135m) transfer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, making the 23-year-old the most expensive British player in history — surpassing the £115m Real Madrid paid Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in 2023 — and the most expensive centre-midfielder ever signed by any club.
The deal is the first major signing under incoming head coach Enzo Maresca, who was confirmed as Pep Guardiola's successor at the Etihad earlier this month. City moved decisively before the transfer market could heat up further around a player who had become one of the Premier League's most sought-after young midfielders following a breakout campaign at the City Ground.
Anderson, who progressed through Newcastle United's academy before joining Nottingham Forest, remains with England at the World Cup and will link up with his new club once the tournament concludes.
