Savio Scores Twice On Tottenham Debut In 5-1 Carabao Cup Win Over Charlton

Moore and Solanke put Spurs in control before the break

Tottenham needed a response after being thrashed 3-0 by Brentford in the Premier League three days earlier, and they got one at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though it took time to get going against a well-organised Charlton side.

Mikey Moore broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, cutting in on his weaker left foot to smash a shot into the roof of the net, and Dominic Solanke doubled the lead right on the stroke of half-time, driving a half-volley into the bottom corner. Charlton had chances of their own in a lively first half, with goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks called into action at the other end.

Savio marks his debut with a quickfire double

Roberto De Zerbi made a raft of changes after the break, and Kevin Danso headed in a Matheus Fernandes free-kick to make it 3-0 in the 67th minute, three minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Savio was introduced in the 70th minute, replacing Dominic Solanke to a standing ovation for his full Tottenham debut following his £85m move from Manchester City. The Brazilian winger needed only 13 minutes to open his account, cutting inside onto his left foot and finishing into the bottom corner in the 83rd minute, before adding a second two minutes later with a deflected effort from a similar position to make it 5-0.

Charlton got a consolation in the 87th minute when Lloyd Jones headed home from a corner, but the result was already well beyond doubt by then. Tottenham progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup.
