Tarkowski Rescues Everton

Late response earns a point

James Tarkowski scored late to earn Everton a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Everton had trailed since Alex Scott’s first-half goal, but Tarkowski capitalised on a loose ball following a late corner and fired a low finish past Bournemouth goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović.

The centre-back’s goal ensured that David Moyes’ side left the south coast with a deserved point.

Scott gives Bournemouth lead

Bournemouth went in front in the 41st minute through Scott. The midfielder received the ball after Evanilson’s move from the left and saw his effort diverted beyond Jordan Pickford by a deflection off Vitalii Mykolenko.

Everton created the stronger early openings, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Thierno Barry both going close before Bournemouth scored.

The visitors pushed for a response in the second half, although Bournemouth carried more of the attacking threat after the break and Everton needed important defensive blocks to remain within reach.

Tarkowski finishes late

Everton found their equaliser in the closing stages when Bournemouth failed to clear a delivery from Hayden Hackney. Tarkowski reacted quickest, gaining possession in the penalty area and driving his shot into the bottom corner.

The point maintained Everton’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season after their opening-day victory over Crystal Palace. They had also beaten Preston North End in the Carabao Cup during the week.
