Salah Scores Brace In First Turkish Süper Lig Game
Mohamed Salah scored both goals in his first Süper Lig start as Trabzonspor came from behind to beat Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1, though the Egyptian also picked up a yellow card and had two later goals ruled out.
Salah breaks his duck in style
Mohamed Salah needed only eight minutes to open his account for Trabzonspor, pouncing after Istanbul Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer failed to hold a routine catch. The 34-year-old Egyptian, who left Liverpool as a free agent this summer after scoring 257 goals across nine years at the club, finished from close range at Papara Park.
It was his first start for Trabzonspor since signing a two-year deal at the start of August. He had come off the bench in last week's 1-1 draw at Kasimpasa.
Shomurodov levels from the spot before Salah restores the lead
Basaksehir hit back in the 19th minute when Eldor Shomurodov converted a penalty, awarded after a VAR review for a handball in the box. Salah settled it early in the second half, scoring again just three minutes after the restart to make it 2-1.
A yellow card and two disallowed goals
Salah was booked for simulation with 11 minutes left after going down in the box. He also had two further goals chalked off in stoppage time — one for a foul in the build-up, and a long-range effort into an empty net that was ruled out for offside after Basaksehir's goalkeeper had gone forward for a corner.
