Paris St-Germain have signed left-back Lucas Digne from Aston Villa on a three-year deal, with the European champions activating an £8.5m release clause to bring the Frenchman back to the Parc des Princes.

PSG activate release clause for return of former player

French club Paris St-Germain have signed defender Lucas Digne from Aston Villa.

The 33-year-old left-back has signed a three-year deal at the Parc des Princes for the European champions.

The Frenchman returns to the club after eight years in England, following PSG's decision to activate an £8.5m release clause in his contract.

Competition for Nuno Mendes

Digne, who joined Villa from Everton in 2022, spent three years with PSG at the start of his career. Digne is set to provide competition for first-choice left-back Nuno Mendes.

Digne: "Very honoured to be returning"

"I am very honoured to be returning to Paris St-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than ten years ago," said Digne.

"I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years."

Joining back-to-back European champions

The Frenchman joins a PSG side which have won the Champions League twice in succession, most recently after beating Arsenal on penalties in the 2026 final.

Digne made 30 appearances for PSG during his first spell, before leaving for Barcelona in 2016.

The left-back was part of a Villa side which won the Europa League last season - the club's first piece of silverware since 1996.
