Chelsea Beat 10-Man United At Stamford Bridge

Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer scored in the second half as Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, with United reduced to 10 men after Lisandro Martínez was sent off.

Rogers breaks the deadlock

Chelsea led through Morgan Rogers five minutes after half-time. Roméo Lavia won possession in midfield and Rogers chipped the ball over United goalkeeper Senne Lammens to score in the 50th minute. It was Rogers' sixth goal of the season.

Matheus Cunha had a header from a corner ruled out for offside before the break, and Chelsea's Estêvão had a goal disallowed after a VAR check for a narrow offside when it would have made the score 3-0.

Martínez sent off, Palmer scores

United were reduced to 10 men in the 63rd minute, when Lisandro Martínez was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Wesley Fofana as Chelsea took a corner. He had been booked earlier for a foul on Rogers. After a VAR review, referee Peter Bankes awarded a penalty, and Cole Palmer scored it in the 64th minute to make it 2-0.

It was Palmer's 50th Premier League goal, reached in his 105th game for Chelsea.

In stoppage time, Bryan Mbeumo hit the crossbar after Mike Penders had made a fingertip save from his volley.

What it means

The defeat extended Manchester United's winless run to nine matches in all competitions, their longest such run since 1988. United are 16th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone, and the result increased the pressure on head coach Michael Carrick. Chelsea moved up to fourth.

United host Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday.
