Pochettino Signs New USMNT Deal Through 2030
U.S. Soccer commits to Mauricio Pochettino through the next World Cup cycle after a record-breaking home tournament, with his remit now expanding well beyond the senior team.
The deal
The U.S. Soccer Federation and Mauricio Pochettino have agreed to a new contract keeping him as USMNT head coach through 2030. It's a new chapter rather than a straight extension: alongside the senior team, Pochettino and his staff will now advise across the full National Team pathway, youth soccer, coaching education and professional league collaboration.
A record-breaking World Cup
The extension follows a historic run on home soil. Pochettino set the USMNT record for most wins at a single World Cup, won the group outright for only the third time in program history, and beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32 — the USMNT's first knockout-stage win since 2002. The U.S. scored in all five matches before their run ended with a 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16.

"Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men's National Team program even stronger," Pochettino said. "The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here." U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson added: "We know we have a lot of work to do to achieve our clear ambitions, including competing to win Men's World Cups."
Backed by Griffin
The expanded role is financed in part by a philanthropic gift from Citadel founder Kenneth C. Griffin, with additional backing from Scott Goodwin and Adam Freede. Since taking over in October 2024, Pochettino has capped 62 players from 16 leagues and 12 countries, with 23 different scorers among the 53 goals in his tenure — including first caps for Max Arfsten, Alex Freeman, Matt Freese, Sebastian Berhalter and Chris Brady, all five of whom went on to make the World Cup roster.
What's next
Before qualifying for 2030 begins, the USMNT will play the 2027 and 2029 Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup. Pochettino's long-time staff — Jesús Pérez, Miguel D'Agostino and Toni Jiménez, together with him for over 15 years including three PSG titles and a 2019 Champions League final with Tottenham — stay in place, joined by Sebastiano Pochettino and Sílvia Tuyà.
