Newcastle Silence Spurs

Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored after half-time as Newcastle United claimed a 2-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs fail to take chances

Newcastle United secured a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scoring in the second half.

Tottenham started strongly and created the clearer first-half chances. Mathys Tel and Jan Paul van Hecke both tested Newcastle goalkeeper Lucas Horníček, but the home side could not make their early pressure count.

Newcastle kept the contest level before finding greater control after the break.

Elanga breaks deadlock

Elanga put Newcastle ahead in the 62nd minute. He turned inside the penalty area before firing a left-footed shot in off the post.

Tottenham made attacking changes but could not find an equaliser as Newcastle defended their lead.

Wissa completes victory

Newcastle made the result secure in the 72nd minute. Substitute Nick Woltemade headed a corner into the six-yard area, allowing Wissa to hook home from close range.

The win was Newcastle’s first in the Premier League this season. It left Tottenham with back-to-back league defeats and without a goal in their opening two matches. Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle also recorded his first Premier League victory.
