Haaland gives City early lead

Manchester City began their Premier League visit to Selhurst Park with authority and went ahead through Erling Haaland.

Antoine Semenyo supplied the cross, with Haaland directing a looping header beyond Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. City had created earlier chances through Elliot Anderson, Ruben Dias and Haaland as they pressed for an opening goal.

Cherki doubles advantage

Rayan Cherki made it 2-0 early in the second half after Phil Foden carried the ball forward and found the French forward. Cherki worked space past Palace defenders before finishing to double City’s advantage.

Crystal Palace responded when Yeremy Pino’s free-kick struck the crossbar and rebounded into the net off Gianluigi Donnarumma. The goal was registered as a Donnarumma own goal.

City finish strongly

The setback did not alter the direction of the match. Cherki struck from distance to score his second goal and restore City’s two-goal lead.

Haaland later completed his own brace with a finish at the back post, sealing a 4-1 victory for Enzo Maresca’s side.

The result gave Manchester City six points from their first two Premier League fixtures of the season. Mateo Kovačić made his 100th appearance for the club, while Ayyoub Bouaddi made his City debut and Ryan McAidoo made his first Premier League start.
