Manchester City Sign Enzo Fernandez
Manchester City have completed the signing of Enzo Fernández from Chelsea for a reported £125 million, matching the British transfer-record fee.
Record deal completed
Manchester City have signed Enzo Fernández from Chelsea in a reported £125 million transfer, matching the British record fee.
City confirmed the arrival of the Argentina international on transfer deadline day. Fernández has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until June 2031.
The reported fee equals the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle United to sign Alexander Isak, making Fernández’s move a joint British-record transfer.
Midfield rebuild continues
Fernández joins a restructured Manchester City midfield following the arrivals of Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi earlier in the summer.
The 25-year-old is a World Cup winner with Argentina and moves after three-and-a-half years at Chelsea. He joined the London club from Benfica in January 2023 for a then-British-record £106.8 million fee.
The deal took place on the final day of the summer transfer window. Reports said Chelsea allowed Fernández to undergo a medical before City completed the transfer.
Major exit for Chelsea
Chelsea’s statement confirmed that Fernández had completed a permanent transfer to Manchester City.
The midfielder leaves after arriving at Chelsea from Benfica, where he had established himself as one of Europe’s leading young midfielders following Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory.
Fernández’s move represents one of the most significant deadline-day transfers in Premier League history and adds another high-profile option to City’s midfield for the 2026-27 campaign.
