Guehi And Gvardiol Snatch Late City Win
Substitute Rayan Cherki set up two late goals as Manchester City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1, handing Enzo Maresca a winning start to his Premier League reign.
Cherki off the bench inspires comeback
Manchester City needed a late response to avoid a disappointing start to the Premier League season, and substitute Rayan Cherki provided it.
Cherki set up Marc Guehi’s equaliser in the 84th minute before creating Josko Gvardiol’s winning goal in stoppage time. City recovered from a goal down to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Gvardiol’s finish was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR overturned the decision after a review and confirmed the winning goal.
Tavernier puts Bournemouth ahead
City began with purpose, but Bournemouth took the lead in the 26th minute.
Evanilson found Marcus Tavernier at the back post, and Tavernier finished from close range to give the visitors an unexpected advantage.
Bournemouth defended their lead well and made City work hard for every opening as the home side tried to find a route back into the match.
City push for response
Bournemouth goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović made key saves to keep City out, while Gianluigi Donnarumma was tested by Justin Kluivert and substitute Daniel Jebbison at the other end.
City’s pressure finally produced an equaliser when Guehi headed Cherki’s corner into the net in the 84th minute. Cherki then supplied Gvardiol, whose stoppage-time finish completed the turnaround.
