Man City’s Enzo Deal Headlines Deadline Day Drama
Manchester City signed Enzo Fernández from Chelsea for a joint-British-record £125 million as Chelsea’s Lamine Camara deal collapsed and Everton missed out on Folarin Balogun.
City complete Fernández signing
Manchester City completed the signing of Enzo Fernández from Chelsea for £125 million on transfer deadline day.
The fee matched the British transfer record and set a new club record for City. Fernández became one of the most expensive players in Premier League history after the Argentina international completed his move from Stamford Bridge.
City also signed Iliman Ndiaye from Everton in a deal reported to be worth £65 million, made up of £60 million guaranteed and up to £5 million in add-ons. The two arrivals accounted for £190 million of City’s deadline-day spending.
Chelsea lose Camara deal
Chelsea’s move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara collapsed late in the transfer window.
Sky Sports and BBC Sport reported that Monaco withdrew from negotiations over the Senegal international. Chelsea had targeted Camara as a midfield addition following Fernández’s departure.
Reports of a £47 million fee, a completed medical, a signed club-to-club agreement and a Chelsea response describing Monaco’s conduct as “deeply unprofessional” have not been confirmed by the reliable reports reviewed. Those claims are not included as verified facts.
Balogun move falls through
Everton’s deadline-day attempt to sign Monaco forward Folarin Balogun also did not reach completion.
BBC Sport and ESPN reported that the United States international did not finalise a move to Everton. The transfer was among several late deals involving Monaco that fell apart before the deadline.
Everton did complete a season-long loan for Jack Grealish from Manchester City. Grealish had spent the previous season on loan at Everton before a foot injury ended his campaign in January.
Spurs sign Chelsea pair
Tottenham Hotspur strengthened on deadline day by bringing in two Chelsea players.
Mykhailo Mudryk joined on loan until the end of the season, while Tosin Adarabioyo completed a permanent move to Spurs. Reports placed the potential value of the Tosin deal at up to £12 million, but that figure is excluded here because it was not independently confirmed by the strongest sources reviewed.
Sunderland completed the signing of Malick Fofana from Lyon. Crystal Palace had also pursued the winger during the day, while the reported value of Sunderland’s deal was approximately £30.8 million including add-ons.
