Mbappé Double Wins El Clásico For Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid won 2-1 at Barcelona in El Clásico, ending the leaders' unbeaten start to the La Liga season and cutting their lead to three points.
Early chances
Arda Güler had the first chance of the game in the fourth minute, but his shot missed the target by centimetres. He tested Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García with a second effort later in the first half, and García kept it out.
Barcelona lost Xavi Espart to an injury before the half-hour and replaced him with Alejandro Balde. Real Madrid were without the suspended Vinícius Júnior.
Mbappé opens the scoring
Real Madrid took the lead in the 41st minute. A team move ended with a cross from Yan Diomande, and when Gerard Martín tried to clear it, the ball hit Kylian Mbappé and went into the net off his right thigh.
Barcelona almost responded two minutes later, when Lamine Yamal shot off target from inside the six-yard area. In first-half stoppage time, Diomande went one-on-one with García but his shot went wide, hitting the side netting.
Raphinha equalises
In the 56th minute, Real Madrid appealed for Dani Cancelo to be sent off for a stamp on Diomande's thigh, which forced Diomande off the pitch for about a minute, according to the club's report. The report does not say what the referee decided.
Barcelona equalised in the 61st minute through Raphinha, who scored from a pass by Pedri. Two minutes later, Güler forced another save from García with a strong shot from a tight angle.
In the 66th minute, Martín headed a shot at goal after a corner and Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin made a stretching save.
Mbappé wins it
In the 88th minute, Jude Bellingham turned away from his marker and found Güler, who played Camavinga through. Eduardo Camavinga got past Pau Cubarsí and set up Mbappé, who scored the winner. The two goals took Mbappé's tally to 11 La Liga goals this season, and the club says the second was his 100th for Real Madrid.
What it means
It was Barcelona's first league defeat of the season, ending a run of nine straight wins. Real Madrid cut the gap at the top to three points and are third in the table, behind Atlético Madrid and Barcelona.
