Liverpool Cruise Past Ipswich As Isak Fires Double

Iraola earns first league win

Liverpool produced a dominant first-half display to secure a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road, giving Andoni Iraola his first Premier League win as head coach.

Alexander Isak was the chief architect, scoring in the sixth and ninth minutes to hand the visitors an early lead they never relinquished. The goals came against a vulnerable Ipswich defence and goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen, whose errors were punished ruthlessly by the Swedish striker.

Ipswich recovered after the poor start and improved in the second half, but could not find a way past Alisson Becker as Liverpool controlled the tempo and saw out the points. The result leaves the hosts with consecutive defeats while Liverpool get their season up and running.

Isak and Gakpo star

Isak’s movement and finishing proved decisive as Liverpool capitalised on early chances.

The striker opened the scoring when Cody Gakpo found him at the edge of the box, and he forced a shot through Scherpen’s palms. Minutes later, Scherpen wandered from his line under a long ball and Isak again finished low and accurately to double the advantage, both goals assisted by Gakpo.

Gakpo’s influence continues to grow under Iraola, with the Dutch forward directly involved in multiple goals across the opening fixtures. Liverpool’s front line pressed with intensity, suffocating Ipswich’s build-up and limiting the hosts to few clear opportunities.

Ipswich fight back but fall short

After the early setback, Ipswich settled and produced a more competitive display in front of a packed Portman Road.

Gary O’Neil’s side enjoyed more of the ball after the interval and tested Liverpool’s defence, but could not create enough to get back into the match. The home fans applauded the team off at the end despite the defeat, recognising the improved performance after the difficult opening period.
