Lionel Messi scored his 101st Inter Miami goal from a free kick, but Anders Dreyer struck twice as San Diego FC earned a 2-2 draw at Nu Stadium.
Messi reaches another Miami milestone
Lionel Messi scored from a free kick as Inter Miami drew 2-2 with San Diego FC at Nu Stadium.
The goal was Messi’s 101st for Inter Miami in all competitions and his 20th in the 2026 MLS regular season. It was also his eighth free-kick goal in MLS since joining the league in 2023, more than any other player in that period.
Messi’s strike was reported as the 75th direct free-kick goal of his senior career, taking his overall senior tally to 930 goals.
Dreyer puts San Diego ahead
Anders Dreyer gave San Diego the lead in the 12th minute.
Jeppe Tverskov played the Danish forward through, and Dreyer lifted a composed finish over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair. Messi responded in the 24th minute, with his free kick travelling through the penalty area and into the net to bring Miami level.
Suárez scores but Miami cannot hold lead
Luis Suárez put Inter Miami ahead in the 74th minute after being released by Rodrigo de Paul.
However, Dreyer scored again in the 82nd minute, finishing after another Tverskov pass over the top to earn San Diego a point.
The draw was Inter Miami’s fourth successive MLS stalemate. The club’s record moved to 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws, for 46 points.
