Ronaldo Included In Jorge Jesus’ First Portugal Squad
Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Jorge Jesus’ first Portugal squad for four UEFA Nations League matches against Wales, Norway and Denmark.
Ronaldo retained by new Portugal coach
Cristiano Ronaldo has been selected in Jorge Jesus’ first Portugal squad as the national side prepares to begin its UEFA Nations League campaign.
The 41-year-old remains available for Portugal after captaining the team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ronaldo had indicated that the tournament could be his last World Cup, but he has not announced his retirement from international football.
Ronaldo is Portugal’s all-time leading men’s scorer, with 146 international goals. He captained the country to its first major men’s trophy at Euro 2016 and was also part of the Portugal side that won the UEFA Nations League in 2019.
Jesus begins Portugal role
The 25-player selection is the first named by Jesus since he replaced Roberto Martínez.
Martínez departed after Portugal’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. Jesus, 72, was appointed in July after previously managing Ronaldo at Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, where the pair won the league title last season.
Jesus has previously coached several major Portuguese clubs, including Benfica and Sporting CP.
Nations League schedule
Portugal begin their League A Group 4 campaign at home to Wales on 24 September.
They then travel to Norway on 27 September and Denmark on 1 October before hosting Norway on 4 October.
