Coventry Sign Ghana's Yirenkyi in Club-Record £26m Deal
Coventry City have signed Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi from Nordsjaelland in a club-record £26million deal, days after breaking their transfer record for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.

Coventry City have completed the signing of Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish Superliga side Nordsjaelland, in a deal Sky Sports report as a club-record fee of around £26million. Other reports put the total value of the deal at up to €30m (£25.71m), said to be structured as an initial €27m (£23.14m) with a further €3m (£2.57m) in potential add-ons. It is the second time this summer Coventry have broken their own transfer record. Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion for £22.5million just days earlier — a fee Yirenkyi's move has now surpassed.
World Cup breakthrough
The 20-year-old midfielder arrives off the back of a standout World Cup with Ghana. He scored a 95th-minute winner in a 1-0 win over Panama in Ghana's Group L opener in Toronto, forcing the ball home from close range after a cross from substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante — his new Coventry team-mate. Yirenkyi also featured for Ghana in their goalless draw with England in the same group stage.
A versatile option for Lampard
Primarily a central midfielder, Yirenkyi is also comfortable at centre-back, giving Frank Lampard — who signed a new contract at Coventry through to 2029 — an added option as the club prepare for their return to the Premier League this season.
