Cape Verde Coach Bubista to Leave Role and Take Charge of Morocco's RS Berkane
The man who led Cape Verde to their first World Cup is expected to quit the national team job within days after agreeing to take over at Moroccan club Renaissance Berkane.

Cape Verde coach Bubista has been appointed head coach at Morocco's Renaissance Berkane, the club announced on Tuesday, following protracted negotiations that at one point included the possibility he could stay on as Cape Verde coach while juggling both jobs. No financial details of the contract were given, but it is understood to run for two seasons. The 56-year-old, whose real name is Pedro Leitão Brito, is expected to quit the Cape Verde job within days, according to media reports, bringing his six-year spell in charge of the Blue Sharks to an end.
The godfather of Cape Verde's World Cup run
Bubista guided the small island nation of roughly 500,000 people to their first-ever World Cup appearance this summer, where they pulled off shock draws with Spain and Uruguay in the group stage before losing to Argentina after extra time in the round of 32. The achievement made Cape Verde the smallest nation by population ever to reach a men's World Cup, and capped a qualifying campaign that saw Bubista named African Coach of the Year for 2025.
A club with pedigree waiting in Morocco
RS Berkane, who Bubista now takes charge of, won the Moroccan Botola Pro title in 2025 and were runners-up this past season. The club also reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League last season and will compete in the continent's top club competition again this campaign, giving Bubista an immediate platform in club football after six years in the international game.
