Olise's Late Double Caps Bayern's Five-Goal Rout Of Bodo/Glimt
Michael Olise scored twice in the final 15 minutes as Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich broke down a stubborn Bodo/Glimt with five unanswered second-half goals to open their Champions League campaign at the Allianz Arena.
A Goalless First Half Built On Bodo/Glimt Resistance
Bayern Munich dominated territory but found Bodo/Glimt hard to break down in a first half that finished level at the Allianz Arena. Luis Diaz headed narrowly over from a Joshua Kimmich cross inside the opening five minutes, and Kimmich himself came closest before the break, striking the post in the 35th minute before goalkeeper Nikita Haikin denied the follow-up. Kompany had freshened his side with three changes from a goalless draw in their previous outing, recalling Jamal Musiala, Olise and Harry Kane, but Bodo/Glimt held their defensive shape and reached half-time with the scoreline still blank.
Musiala And Kane Turn The Game After The Restart
The deadlock broke almost immediately after half-time. Musiala steered in a half-volley from close range in the 47th minute after Kane's initial effort was blocked, and Kane doubled the lead in the 61st minute with a header from an Olise free-kick delivery. Bodo/Glimt's night worsened further when they failed to fully clear a corner, allowing Alphonso Davies to drive a long-range effort into the net in the 77th minute, and their resistance collapsed entirely when defender Odin Bjortuft was sent off in the 87th minute for fouling Olise as the last man back.
Olise Punishes Bodo/Glimt Twice In The Closing Stages
Down to ten men, Bodo/Glimt could not keep out Olise, who curled a shot into the top corner in the 83rd minute after being teed up by teenage forward Lennart Karl, then added a fifth in stoppage time by pouncing on a loose ball after a defensive mistake. Kane's goal was the 55th of his Champions League career, while Musiala's opener stood as Bayern's 900th goal in European club competition. The win kept Bayern unbeaten this season, with their next Champions League fixture away to Norwegian side Viking on 13 October.
