Chelsea strike early again

Chelsea continued their theme of fast starts this season by taking the lead inside two minutes at the Emirates Stadium.

A free-kick lofted into the Arsenal box by Reece James was headed down by Maxence Lacroix. After a scramble, Jorrel Hato kept the ball alive and Morgan Rogers swept a first-time shot low into the bottom corner beyond David Raya.

Arsenal pushed for an immediate response. A low free-kick caused chaos in the Chelsea six-yard box, and Riccardo Calafiori appeared to equalise from close range, but VAR ruled Ezri Konsa offside and the goal was disallowed.

Gunners fight back before half-time

Arsenal’s pressure eventually told in the 25th minute.

Kai Havertz cut in from the right onto his left foot and rolled a shot inside Emi Martínez’s near post from the edge of the area to make it 1-1. Chelsea had chances to restore their lead before the break, with Pedro Neto striking the base of the post in stoppage time, but the first half ended level.

Ødegaard puts Arsenal ahead

Both sides came out determined to win in the second half.

Arsenal took the lead in the 50th when Havertz dummied a low cross to let it run to Martin Ødegaard, who had time and space to finish at close range. Chelsea responded by pushing higher, bringing on Malo Gusto and Pep Chavarría, but could not find an equaliser.

Late pressure but no reward

Chelsea dominated the final 15 minutes and pinned Arsenal back in their own half.

Cole Palmer and João Pedro carried the main threat, while late substitute Estêvão Willian forced a fingertip save from Raya. Pedro Neto also hit the post as Chelsea searched for a leveller, but the visitors fell short despite a strong performance.

The result ends Chelsea’s 100 per cent start and leaves them fourth in the table. Arsenal remain joint-top alongside Manchester City with four wins from four.
