African Quartet Qualify For FIFA Women's World Cup Brazil 2027

Morocco, Cameroon, Malawi and Algeria have booked their places at the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil after advancing to the WAFCON 2026 semi-finals, with four more nations still chasing a spot through the intercontinental play-offs.

Malawi stun Ghana for maiden qualification

Malawi came from a goal down to beat Ghana 2-1, with Temwa Chaewinga and Rose Kadzere scoring, to seal their spot at next summer's World Cup. The 153rd-ranked side made an immediate impact on their debut appearance at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Algeria reach first-ever World Cup

Algeria secured their first ever Women's World Cup qualification by beating a 10-player Ivory Coast 2-1. Ines Khiri and Amira Ould Braham were on target after Nde Sira Oudraogo was sent off with the Ivorians 1-0 up, and Algeria went on to reach the WAFCON last four.

Morocco and Cameroon complete the quartet

Goals from Sakina Ouzraoui Diki and Hanane Ait El Haj saw hosts Morocco beat South Africa 2-1 to claim their place at the World Cup. Cameroon joined them with a 1-0 win over Nigeria, settled by a spectacular 30-yard free-kick from 19-year-old Myriam Nyadjou.

Four more chasing a play-off route

Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and South Africa, all beaten at the quarter-final stage, still have a route to Brazil 2027. Ivory Coast face Ghana and Nigeria meet South Africa on Thursday, with both winners advancing to the 10-nation intercontinental play-offs in November and December. Three of those 10 nations will qualify for next summer's tournament, which runs from 24 June to 25 July.

What's next

WAFCON's semi-finals take place on Wednesday, with Morocco facing Cameroon before Algeria meet Malawi. WAFCON itself doubles as a World Cup qualifying tournament, with any side reaching the semi-finals already guaranteed their place in Brazil.
